These is a world where super powered heroes (with designs modelled after insects) fight powerful beings and evil corporations while riding motorcycles and just generally being badass and that’s funny on display here in Battride War. While Genesis won’t be a good jumping in point for newcomers like say Macross Delta Scramble, it does allow fans to relive plenty of their favourite moments while experiencing a new story – and that’s kinda the point. Kamen Rider is a tokusatsu series which is live action and heavily based on special effects – Power Rangers is an example of this that made it to the west. One of the more interesting ideas I’ve seen for an anniversary celebration title ( Battride War Genesis was released for the 45th anniversary of Kamen Rider), while the story here provides predictable fanservice by the gallon, it’s fascinating to see these decades of Japanese TV history compressed into one package on the Vita. The only fighters to remain un-chaged are Kamen Rider Ghost and Kamen Rider Den-O, who together travel back themselves to assist the heroes and rebuild history to the way it should be. Facing a threat unlike any they’ve battled before, the masked vigilantes of the Kamen Rider series must stop their history from being erased after the evil Shadow Moon travels back in time and powers up the enemies of Kamen Rider 1, causing his defeat and changing the timeline forever.
